School Supply “Cake”

I created this “Back to school” supply cake to be used as part of a raffle ticket draw. It was a new alternative to the traditional raffle baskets.

To make the “cake”, the materials I used were:

  • 10 pack of pencils
  • 24 pack of Crayola colored pencils
  • 12 pack of Crayola thin markers
  • 12 pack of Crayola thick markers
  • 10 pack of colored pens
  • Calculator
  • 3 24 packs of Crayola crayons
  • 4 bottles of Elmer’s school glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil Sharpener
  • 2 rulers
  • 4 erasers
  • 2 coil bound Hilroy notebooks
  • 2 packs of Hilroy loose leaf
  • 8 scribblers
  • 2 gluesticks

The process of making the cake was fun. It was kind of like trying to put together a puzzle and you had no idea where the pieces would fit. My “cake” had three layers, the base layer was the scribbler, coil notebooks, and loose leaf. The next layer was various supplies, in the middle of this layer and the top layer is a tissue box, that I wrapped in white paper. There was a lot of space in the middle that needed to be filled and it helped in the end because I had something that I could tape some of the supplies to. In the middle of each layer instead of using a box, you cold use a hard plastic pencil case, or a pencil holder that sits on a desk.  After each layer was done I wrapped some ribbon around it, just to make it look a little prettier, and it also helped to hold it together a little. Your “cake” will go together differently and look different then mine, depending on what school supplies items you decide to put on your “cake”. The possibilities with this are endless and you can create it however you choose. A very neat idea!
