I have finally become a stay at mom, I’m the happiest I have ever been. My husband and I have worked hard so that I could become a stay at home mother after the birth of our third child. As I tell the people in my life I hear the same question over and over again, “How can you afford that?”. That is the first thing everyone says, not “congrats”, not “I’m so happy for you” but “How can you afford that?”
“How can you afford that?” Let’s start by saying I didn’t just wake up one morning and say “hey, I think I will quit my job and stay home.” It is something that my husband and I have talked about for a couple of years, there was a lot to consider. I would have to give up a job that I have been doing for 5+ years, we would have to cut our costs, we would have to give up our favorite past time “shopping”, we wouldn’t be able to live in a huge house, we would have to drive an affordable vehicle, our children wouldn’t be sporting the latest fashions and brand names. But we have talked it out, over and over and over and over again. We are ready for a life change and over haul, if you would like to call it that. I’m sure when my children are bigger and in school, I will find a job again that I love. We have lots of ways that we can cut our costs, our house is perfect for us, we can live with our vehicle, and I survived with second hand clothes, I’m sure my children will too.
We are welcoming this as a new challenge, it wouldn’t be our life if it wasn’t challenging. As we head into the new year we are excited for the changes that our life will have in the upcoming year and I look forward to sharing our changes on this blog.
